Permalink Reply by Justin G on April 6, 2011 at 9:14pm I have seen the first two Ring movies (Ringu out here) and the first two grudge movies (ju-on) like you said. The Japanese inspirations were much better than the American recreations.
I honestly feel that Japanese horror is lost on American audiences. We just aren't scared of ghosts like Japanese people tend to be. It's a culture thing I think. A lot of Asian horror (Korean, Chinese, Japanese) tend to be about ghosts and what not. Out here, we're worried about serial killers in masks and people hunting us down in our dreams.
