Have you heard about the Slender Man?

I am a total skeptic when it comes to youtube videos and internet rumors. I was listening to Coast to Coast tonight on the way home from my hockey game. A woman caller was telling George about the Slender Man. George had not heard about it and she went to describe this tall slender faceless man that is apparently snatching children. She also noted that people believe he is a shape shifter due to his incredibly long arms that reportedly can extend super-long at will (obvious to snatch fast running kids).

So I didn't think anything of it, then when I arrived home, my curious nature took over. I went on youtube and found several videos claiming Slender Man sightings.

By now you're probably thinking this is some sort of future movie promotion by a studio or well conceived prank.

Well, I decided to open up a discussion to those that want to dive into something a little different. One thing after watching a few of these videos - I am a little freaked out. Just a warning, this is some creepy footage - fake or not.

I stumbled across a "Slender Man" intro video. That is the first video in the player below. Use the arrows on the player to watch all the entries in order as they were released.

If this is a movie promotion, I applaud the execution and creepiness factor. If this is real - then... Well, you be the judge. There are 17 video entries so far - something tells me there will be more. I'll post when available.

I also think the Marble Hornets thing is a fake, but I am still weirded out by the whole thing. I catch myself making sure all the window blinds are all the way down at night because I don’t want to see him looking through, or let my imagination make me think that I just saw him out of the corner of my eye.
So that it is understood, the multiple armed 20 feet tall Slender Man that you see in the old pictures or has been drawn and posted on the internet is not the guy I saw. The guy I saw only has 2 arms and was about 8 to 10 feet tall. He was hunched over my sister’s crib, so I am not sure how tall he really was. (Not to mention it was 42 years ago) It was a really old house, and had very high ceilings.
Something else that came to me last night that I had forgotten about with that little house in Somerset KY: We had a Weimaraner named Hildy that was about two years old. They are bird dogs by nature. The crows that lived around that house would steal my dog’s bones and eat her food, to the point that we started having to feed her inside because the crows would mess with her so much. We also had a lot of bats, there are many caves and a lot of old houses with old brick fireplaces, and empty barns, garages, attics etc. The bats would come out at night by the thousands. I remember them ganging up on the crows and fighting them off. At dusk you could literally see the bats circling around the crows until they left.
I now have this urge to go down to Somerset and see if I can figure out where our house was!!! It’s insane how pre-occupied I am with this. Totally not like me.

Whatever those guys are doing with the Hornet thing is very scary, but I don’t think it’s real. What I know is real is what happened to me. I am easy to check out, I don’t have anything to do with the movies, and I own a computer repair shop / internet café named Computer Solutions LLC/ the iCafé in Evansville Indiana. I have nothing to do with whatever it is they are doing, although it is really cool. I was just driving home one night late and heard the coast to Coast stuff, searched the Slender Man on Google, and found you guys. I haven’t posted about this anywhere else. It just really freaks me out. This is TRULY something that happened to me, and the reason I am freaked is because I have told my story to a few people, but no one has ever said anything that even closely relates. I have never heard anyone ever say anything else about it.

The Germans call him the tall man, and there is evidence of him that is centuries old. If you search "Der Großmann” You will learn that this phenomenon has existed well before RPG’s, the Internet, or even movies for that matter. I have learned what I now know about the Slender Man primarily from internet searches, so consider the validity of my data unreliable unless you research yourself.

I don’t want to debate the validity of the Marble Hornets, because the videos while very awesome are also most likely quite fake. But where did those guys get their idea? What instigated their idea? I think it is entry 18 when the Slender Man sneaks in the room, the guy wakes up, adjusts his door and hops back in bed, then he has a bloody face. That guy that sneaks in the room looks exactly the way I remember him. Maybe we all have some kind of similar primordial fear, which would explain all of this, or else there is something to it.

Of course Dustin this specific story is produced, but expanded from original stories of Slender Man sightings. Think of it like X-Files, sure it was a TV show, but almost every episode stemmed from actual happenings. In the end, it's all about what you believe I suppose.

Take this forum post for example. Every since we started this discussion, this thread has appeared jacked on the home page. Tech can't figure out why, and we are still trying to resolve the issue.

For some reason, to me the "slender man" from these "MarbleHornets" videos looks like Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas lol. But all jokes aside, this did freak me out and I'll tell you why; when I was little I remember seeing something like the slender man. It was when my family and I first moved back to AZ when I was about five years old and we just moved into our new home here. There was a large mirror in my room that I could see the other side of my room in it from my bed if I was laying on my left side. One night when I glanced in the mirror from my bed just as I was falling asleep I saw a very tall, thin man just standing there not moving. Naturally I screamed, sat up and looked where the reflection was coming from but when I looked around the room he wasn't there. My mom came running in my room and asked me what happened. I told her and she assured me it was just a dream. But from that night on everytime I looked in that mirror when I was in bed I would see him just standing there in the same place. But everytime I'd look to see if he was really standing there in the room and not just in the mirror I would never see him. I stopped seeing him after a while and when I looked back on it I just passed it off as a little kids imagination. But now I wonder if it might have been something more.
Anyway, I feel for you Tab! My experience wasn't nearly as frightening as yours was and mine was still pretty scary.

Yeah, it was VERY scary! But the thing is he didn't DO anything. He just stood there, perfectly motionless, and not even in my real room, only in the reflection of it. I mean you said you saw him doing something to your sister and then she had scratches on her face, if I saw him doing something like that then I would be completely and utterly terrified. But he never did anything to harm me or my loved ones and even though he was there I had the feeling he wouldn't do anything. The only reason I consider he could be this "slender man" and not something else is because he was extremely tall, thin and had no facial features what so ever. And the only reason I think he might have been real, and not just a figment of a child's imagination, is because he was just TOO REAL to be something my mind had just conjured up and I still so intensely remember his presence to this day.

I agree with you 100%. The reason I think its real is simply because I remember it so well, and it is the very first thing I ever really have. I was terrified, but it only happened the one time. It was very significant in my life, and has always been one of my two ghost stories when people are being supernatural and telling stories.
What’s weird right now is the way it is playing with my head. Yesterday I was taking the trash out to the curb for pick up; it was around 5:30am, still dark outside. We live about a mile from the Ohio River, our neighborhood is very wooded, I was looking around and started thinking about the stupid Slender Man, and I got scared. I was thinking ‘If I see him, do I grab a bat and go after him, or do I run?’ Stuff like this doesn’t scare me, or at least never has until this. (I decided I would probably run… lol)
Just this morning, maybe an hour ago, I got up and pre-heated the oven to make the girls cinnamon rolls; I got the tube of rolls out and read it to know what temperature to heat the oven. I set the tube in the middle of the kitchen table and took a shower. After the shower I got the girls up, and went to cook the rolls. The rolls were not on the table. It’s a small table, more of a nook than a real dining area. It’s early, I smoked a lot of herb in the 80’s so it’s quite possible that I may not be working with all my neurons, so I started looking for the tube. I looked in the fridge, in the laundry room, on all the counters, no cinnamon rolls anywhere. Then I looked back at the kitchen table, and there right in the middle of the table was the tube of rolls. Now I recognize this kind of nonsense happens all the time, but this time I ABSOLUTELY know the rolls were not on the table when I first started looking. I know where I put the rolls, there was nothing else on the table, the table is small, the surface of the table isn’t busy so its not like the tube could have blended into the surroundings, I had my coffee already so I was relatively alert. I have had four or five of these little events occur recently.
