Permalink Reply by Shari on October 30, 2011 at 12:00pm I'd have to say that mine are:
The Shining (never have slept soundly since)
Exorcist (AAGGHHH!!)
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (scared the CRAP out of me!)
SAW
Paranormal Activity 2 (still have yet to see 3)
Halloween
Silence of the Lambs
The Strangers
High Tension (OMG!!! SICK!)
Devil's Rejects
Outside of The Shining being number one, I have no particular order. Anyone else?
Permalink Reply by j24young on October 31, 2011 at 2:44pm Love part of your list but also worth a mention is Nightmare on Elm St. (original of course), Sixth Sense, OldBoy (depends on if you consider it a horror movie), [rec],and It (Pennywise made me hate clowns)...
Permalink Reply by Dave Lathrop on October 30, 2011 at 12:06pm Anything with Adam Sandler in it really scares me...!
Permalink Reply by Dave Lathrop on October 30, 2011 at 12:12pm I take it you haven't seen "Don't Mess with the Zohan"?
OK, lemme think about it...
Permalink Reply by Dave Lathrop on October 30, 2011 at 12:31pm Don't like scary movies... for the most part, they aren't scary, just stupid... but some of the ones I do like are (in alphabetical order)...
Alien (especially for the "Chestburster" scene)
Blob (with Steve McQueen) - gave me nightmares when I first saw it
Cape Fear - the original 1962 version... not the remake
Dead and Buried - Dan O'Bannon made this right after Alien
Exorcist - not really scary... just disturbing
Halloween (but ONLY the original!)
Night of the Living Dead (from 1968) - another one that scared me as a kid
Scanners - I likes me David Cronenberg movies!
Shriek of the Mutilated - the movie that introduced the song "Popcorn" by "Hot Butter".
Wait Until Dark - blind woman is alone with robbers in her apartment - great Audrey Hepburn movie
As you can tell, I like older scary movies better than the newer ones. To me, there is very little originality in modern scary movies.
Permalink Reply by Shari on October 30, 2011 at 12:35pm What is wrong with the Cape Fear REMAKE?!?!? Deniro was INSANE in that part. When he has Juliette ALONE the drama class - WOAH!! Never have seen Wait Until Dark... or Dead and Buried. See... ya learnt me sumthin', Davey!
Permalink Reply by Dave Lathrop on October 30, 2011 at 12:47pm Sorry Shari, but Juliette Lewis is the worst actress since Pia Zadora... and Robert DeNiro played the part in Cape Fear a little bit too over the top for me... liked the Robert Mitchum portrayal a lot better.
I'd also acknowledge a movie called "Dead Again" with Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson. Not scary (at least not for me) but it is very original and interesting...
Permalink Reply by Shari on October 30, 2011 at 1:38pm Psychological thrillers are the best. :) The idea that something could really happen to you, someone could really be lurking out there with the capabilities of hurting you without a thought in there mind really are the true scary movies. Gotta disagree with you about your reasons to barely include Cape Fear on your list, though. I loved it.
