Text message invites to special advance movie screenings

What are some of your favorite movies of 2010 (so far)?

Well we are past the halfway point on the calendar and I was just curious as to what has been everyone's favorite movies that they have seen so far for 2010? I know it has been an even weaker year for movies than last year but I have found some stars and a couple of hidden gems amongst the heaping of sh*t that have come out this year.

  • Best Movie- My obvious pick for best movie (so far) is Inception. Was it a dream or was it partial reality is the question?  A movie you definitely have to watch a few viewings.  My minor flaw/trend that I am seeing in Christopher Nolan's movies are the weak casting in the lead actresses. Maggie Gyllenhaal as Jeff Bridges girlfriend in Crazy Heart ok I can see that since the guy is sh*tfaced all the time and has beer goggles on. Maggie in TDK as Bruce Wayne and Harvey Dent fight over her that is really really really stretching it (for me anyways).  Which brings me to Marion Cotillard in Inception which she is Leo's wife in the movie. Everytime she came on I just kept staring at her mole on her forehead. Couldn't they put makeup over it or a band-aid? Please it is very distracting, it just kept getting bigger and bigger throughout the movie.  Plus the kids do not look like her at all.

  • Best Animated Movie- Another obvious pick for me is Toy Story 3. Can't give enough praises for Pixar. Most underrated character nobody probably remembers is Chuckles the Clown.  Never thought I would find a creepier doll than Chucky well here it is the dirty baby doll with the lazy eye.

  • Best Foreign Movie- The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. One of my biggest pet peeve is people who are lazy and do not want to read subtitles in a movie, maybe books too. When you tell someone that the movie has subtitles that is when you lose them in a conversation completely. I am betting 60-70% of Americans will not watch a foreign movie due to subtitles. Well this is a truly great mystery type of film to see. Still have the horrific image of Lisbeth hooking up with the old fat guy Mikael (that scene came out in total left field). Well if you are too lazy to watch this movie because of the subtitles guess what? They are making an American version next year. Yah! You lazy f*cks!
  • Honorable mention: Mother. What lengths a mother would go to and try to prove her son is innocent of murder.

Pretty good, sweets! How are you these days?
Hold up, hold up, lets not change the focus onto me now. You're obviously hiding behind your "daddy" issues, admitting your issues is the first step to recovery. Everytime he would come home he would yell, "daddy's home, break out the vaseline son." That is why you turned out the way you did, nobody blames you that you are always willing and able but please put your pants back on! Enough is enough!
Inception was a phenomenal movie. But am I the only one who thinks it was basically a mainstream version of Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind? It's the same basic idea of changing one's subconscious in the their dreams in order to make them act differently in waking life. But I loved it, so I didn't mind that it was kind of a knockoff.
I'm slowly catching up to some summer movie watching.

Inception was well done. Looking forward to the sequel. First movie in a long time that I didn't look at my phone to see how long was left. Seeing Juno dressed in a business suit was disturbing to me. She looked like an old fashioned doll from the set of a 70's horror movie.

The Other Guys had some laughs. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I did peak at my phone with about 20 minutes to go though. After a few stinkers, it was good to see Will Ferrel in a decent performance. The Rock and Sam Jackson had funny cameos. In fact, I would probably enjoy a spin-off movie of those characters. Obviously it would have to be "the early years"...

Caught some Salt in the eye a few weeks ago. Some good action, a few anticipated twists, and the usual recipe for a summer movie release. Good thing Jolie is still a joy to look at.

I am hoping for surprises from Wall Street Money Never Sleeps. The trailer looked promising, but that sometimes is a tip-off to a bad sequel.

Going to scour for some indie films to rent for the remainder of the summer. Anybody have any suggestions? This hardened movie-goer is tough to please at times, and sometimes it's the movies that we rarely hear about that entertain us the most.
