Allow Phones in the Theater!

Allow Phones in the Theater!

Making everyone put their cell phone in their car is ridiculous. If we all decide we want our cell phone, the theater has no choice but to let us.

So long as they aren't doing body checks (which are becoming less prominent), if you play it cool, turn your phone on vibrate. No one cares...

Plus they have security checking for people using their phones during movies, which leads me to believe their security isn't 100% anyway.

On a side note, I have never seen someone escorted out of the theatre like they threaten to all the time.

I get annoyed when they have u toss ur phone into a big bin and then the person next to me in the theater is making calls and talking on her cell phone. Also my cell phone has no ability to capture video and if they lose the phone they have no responsibilty to replace it. We take the bus into downtown seattle so it's simply not safe to leave it at home. It would be different if they were legally responsible to replace my phone if stolen.

The main reason i don't wanna have to leave my phone at home is cause one i usually take the bus and my phone is my life line to my family. and because my mom is disabled, i need to be able to recieve their calls at all times in case they need me. And I'm a small business owner, that needs to help my employees whenever they need help.

The distraction reasoning doesn't hold up in my opinion. Since the ban is only on camera phones. I know tMC members that have purchased cheap no camera phones just to avoid the hassle. Simply put, if your phone doesn't have a camera, you can still bring it in.

I don't like when they check them in because my phone cost around $650 so i don't want anything happening to it and they say themselves they are not liable. Phones being out does annoy me as well but there are always employees watching for that sort of thing every show i've been to. Yes it is free and we have to deal with some things that is beyond the theaters control but we are also doing them a favor seeing the movie and generating a good review for it so more people go watch the movie. I understand why they don't want phones in the theater but i think it is unnecessary, Unmanageable, and foolish.

I agree that it is an inconvenience, but I do understand why they do not want them in the theater though. They do not want them recording, and they want minimal distractions during the movie. Most of the time they are willing to check them in for you. That works for me. I actually like when the phones are not in the theater, because my BIGGEST complaint at the movies in general is when someone takes out their phone and answers it or texts, emails, or does anything that makes the screen come on while I am watching the movie. I have gotten my money back a few times at paid movies when it is excessive. Also, it is really hard to complain about it when the event is free. There are inconveniences we all deal with to see the movies in advance and for free. (lines, getting there early, cutting in line, cell phone issues etc.) That is just part of it.

That is not it at all IMO. The studio is paying for me to see the movie so that tell people that it is a good movie and get them more money. When i go and see the movie i am doing them a favor in the long run. Thats true i could just not go to the screening, and if everyone did the same thing as me they would change their rule of no cell phones. They wouldn't pay for us to see the movie if it didn't help them in the long run.

hey Chris
This may have been better as a general discussion, but whatever.

The cell phone thing is sort of a inconvience, and the quality of cell phone recordings is crap, however the movie studio doesn't want them in the theater so that's it... even if there wasn't a copyright issue the studio is paying for you to see the movie, so they can impose whatever rules they want.
The only reason the theater cares about cell phones is the studio is paying them to host the movie and is expecting them to envorce the studio's rules.
There is always another choice.... don't go to the screening.
