Little Known Movies Worth Searching For
As we all know, it's hard to find good movies. Often, indies can be overlooked. This would be the perfect forum to discuss good movies that we otherwise might not know about or hear about.
I'll start off with my favorite film from the Phoenix Film Festival a few years back. It's called Checking Out. Hilarious movie. I saw this great movie at the Fest but didn't hear any more about it. A couple of years later, I randomly found it on the shelf at Blockbuster. The film never got theater distribution and wound up with a small dvd distribution. The movie stars Peter Falk, Laura San Giacomo, David Paymer, and Judge Reinhold. While the outright premise could be seen as a little morbid (but then again, so was Death at a Funeral), this is a truly great movie and not actually morbid at all. I thought S. Darko was pretty bad. I didn't realize it was written by someone else until after I watched it. If you watch Donnie Darko director's cut, there is audio commentary by Richard Kelly and Kevin Smith which they discuss a little bit about why Richard Kelly will not write a sequel to Donnie Darko.
