PERCY JACKSON - SEA OF MONSTERShttps://www.gofobo.com/rsvp/promotion/61635e830f5a4389fc4e3570fff44713
Some thoughts from last night's screening of The Wolverine @ The Palms/Brenden Theaters..... Kinda rambling, so just work with me here.
There were a LOT of people showing up between 5-6pm who weren't aware that tickets got handed out just before 1pm that day. The folks I talked to had passes from various places which said the movie started at 7pm and they were told "to show up early for a better chance of getting in".
Some of those folks were pretty pissed when the theater reps told them the tickets had already been given out and I can sympathize with them. One lady with her two kids had driven in from Mesquite of all places so her sons could see the film.
After the A, B & C lines were let into the theater, I had my gf save our seats while I headed back to the concessions stand. I loitered a little to see how many of the "stand-by" people managed to get in. My best estimation was that maybe 30-40 of the people who showed up without tickets managed to get in, and about 50-60 people were turned away.
There was talk of "no cell phones will be allowed in the theater". I saw some of the theater reps actually handing out slips of paper to everyone that stated this, and at one point some guy who supposedly worked the event for the studios actually tried to make an announcement telling people to go put their phones in their cars. Some people did but needless to say most everyone seemed to ignore him. I saw a guy in line messing with what looked like an iPad and as far as I know, he got in with no issues. Not 100% on that one, but I didn't see him get out of line to put his stuff in his car.
Security at the door to the theater had the metal detector wands but didn't seem to be using them - I was asked "do you have a cell phone on you?" and when I told them "No" I just walked right on in. They didn't even make an effort to wand me, my gf or the people ahead of us.
Personally, I think the whole "no cell phones" rule is a crock. I mean seriously... the film is in 3D, but I'm supposed to believe that a camera on a cell phone is responsible for film piracy? ROFL, yeah, right.
If anything (and this is just my opinion) the studios shouldn't be dumb and try to tell people attending screeners to put their cell phones in their cars. Want to build hype for a film? Get people posting on all the various social media sites that they're waiting for a screener to The Wolverine to start and they're super excited. Hell, let people take pics with some strategically placed movie posters or those cardboard cutouts right as they go into the theater. Stuff like that is free publicity for a summer blockbuster, so why not take advantage of it?
This is all just my .02 worth and I passed it along to the dude working the event for the studios as part of my feedback on the film. Do I think it'll do any good? Who knows, but if it helps change the way screeners are done and makes things run smoother then so much the better.
Yeah, if anyone has a code for Percy, please pass it along.
I'll take percy code pretty please
