Attack The Block
Looking for a film that is really scary? Looking for a film that doesn't take itself too seriously? Looking for a film with teenagers that no one believes until it's too late? Have you seen this one before? Well the plot line is all too familiar. But it is appealing nonetheless. The aliens are very well done considering the budget. There are only a few minor weaknesses in the plot. Our heroes seem to be able to figure out a lot of stuff with very little information (like why the aliens are here, why a different looking alien appeared first, what attracts them and how to slip past these bloodthirsty creatures without getting a scratch.) Throw in a little neighborhood-hoodlum-becomes-hero and some fireworks and you have Attack the Block. See it quick or you might miss it.
Transformers 3: Dark Of The Moon
After the disappointment of Transformers 2, there was plenty of room for improvement. Having said that, many viewers of this latest installment will probably leave the theater shaking their head. Sure there are top-notch special effects, (as there should be in a $400 million film,) but the plot is overly complex and confusing, requiring absolute attention of the viewer to make sense of it all. The film is nearly an hour too long at two hours and thirty-seven minutes. Just how many rock’em sock’em robot fights must the audience endure? Even Leonard Nimoy as the voice of Sentinel Prime spouting “The needs of the few outweighs the needs of the many” line from Star Trek II can’t save this one. I can’t even recommend renting the eventual DVD since all the great special effects will be lost on the small screen. For Transformers fans only. 5 out of 10
