Text message invites to special advance movie screenings

I just want to say thank you to all of you that made it out to see House Bunny. We had a great turn out.

Wife wanted to see this one, so this was a brownie point movie for me that I actually, kinda, sorta liked... the beginning of. And I think most guys would agree with me.

I wanted to let everyone know about some upcoming changes & happenings with tMC.

First off, we've heard from all of you loud and clear. We're going to bring back the SMS blasts and ticket wins. As I'm sure everyone is feeling the pinch these days, we here at tMC are feeling it just as much. Messaging isn't free and we're working on ways to keep tMC spam free and enjoyable to everyone. We utilize the RSVP system on this site to help keep costs down and keep this service running.

With that said we are working on securing sponsorships with tMC. (If you know of anyone looking to be in front of 3000+ eyeballs in the Phoenix metro area, please send 'em our way.) We'll be bringing you some slick deals around your favorite movie theaters and around the ASU campus. How are we going to do this? We'll likely sneak some short ads into our blasts. I can hear it now, "Oh you're selling out man!" No, we're not. We're trying to make ends meet and not have to shut this pretty nifty thing down. And as I've said since day one, we will never SPAM you!

In the coming weeks we're going to be piloting a new paper ticket system. This will be especially useful for those movies that are tight on security. We'll let you know you've won via SMS and direct you to our homepage to retrieve your screening pass. This way you can ditch your phone in the car and not have to worry about checking your expensive Blackberry or iPhone with the security guards. We'll still have our SMS notifications and blasts, because... well... that's our thing.

We've gotten some great feed back and a lot of positive support. Keep it coming.

Comment by mark on August 26, 2008 at 7:17pm: This new system will hold members accountable. I've noticed that several members RSVP to ALL the screenings of the same movie. I understand the reasoning (to increase their odds of getting passes), but this will soon change.

This new system will be allow more members to attend screenings. We're still working out the details and will update as we get closer to launch.

Comment by Shari on August 25, 2008 at 1:35pm: An accurate count is important. The passes are always for 2 but what if only one person is going? There's a seat wasted for someone else. Chances are, most people will not attend alone, but I like that GOFOBO will ask if you need 1 or 2.

maybe if we can request how many we need like 3 today, this way we only need one to rsvp but it will give the passes we need, and not waste paper.

If not then 2 is a fair number.

Comment by coyotecat on August 25, 2008 at 1:21pm: Yeah i like the paper passes. if they are the ones from GOFOBO then yes do them. They are all pretty. And they have to be scanned. I for one would help out with the scanning.

It does get boring sitting there for 4 hours waiting for a movie at times.

Just an idea, Like your doing blockbuster, what about netflix?

One important issue that I want emphasis here is that txtMovieClub is NOT abandoning texting.

The paper ticket feature is to make things easier for our members. Security is getting more and more intensive at screenings. In the near future, any type of electronic device, including mobile phones (even without cameras) will not be allowed into screenings. We dislike having to ask members to use paper to print passes, but please know that tMC will be recycling all passes.
