Legion, one reason why God should probably destroy the world.

WARNING: I AM GOING TO DIVULGE EVERY BIT OF INFO ABOUT LEGION; DONT READ IF YOU ACTUALLY CARE!

I'm not sure if I'm just overly critical as of late, because of that fact that we came out of one of the best Christmases for movies. But sweet, 8 pound 5 ounce baby Jesus this movie is Gawd Awful. I’m going to characterize this review in 2 sections, Comedic influence and possibly a guide on how to make a script make no sense at all.

First off this film, I'm not even sure I should call it that, starts out fairly well. Has some good cinematography and camera movement. Some great revealing and developing shots. It’s comical and fits fairly well. Once the grandma shows up from the preview, it goes down hill and every possibly line of dialogue that comes out of any characters mouth, minus Paul Bettany, is horrible and corny! I quote when Dennis Quaid ask what is going on and the cook, Charles Dutton says "These aren’t are regular customers," in a staggered and insecure manner. From this point on the movie acts completely serious and delivering as bad if not worse lines of dialogue. My friend and I were now in a comedy film and it was not all that great of one. That being said, nothing can prepare you for what the hell goes on in the movie.

The plot: People have failed God. So God sends his Legion of Angles, whom takes the form of humans/demons. The only hope for humanity, against God of all people is a pregnant girl out in the middle of nowhere. They never explain why the baby is important and how it can change the fate of humanity. And number one the Angles never rush the small diner in the beginning and just kill everyone. It is my friends a roller coaster ride of nonsense, poor editing, and horrible dialogue. Not to mention the 45 minutes in between the end and the beginning that make no sense, random events happen, and is just plain boring.

My friends do not go see this film. Do not give ephing Scott Stewart, the director, any money for a movie that if best should have gone straight to DVD. So in summary, Bad everything but a good intro and cinematography. STAY AWAY SENSIBLE VIEWERS! RUN AWAY ACTUALLY! Unless of course you are drinking 6 months down the road with friends and you need a good drunken Mystery Science Theateresk, type night!

Eoghan,,, For every educated person that says Achille-Claude Debussy's Afternoon of a Faun is possibly the greatest work of all time, I name three Pearl Jam songs that I rather hear. It's art, we get to decide. Not as you say, the failed artist. At NYU, we would joke that future starving artists were being taught by failed artists who were taught by other failed artists. Like what you like and don't think that our opinion matters one bit to the movie company and producers. The director and screen writer would never care once Hollywood changes their vision.

I went by the reviews of yesterday's A&E. I must admit, I don't go to rottentomatoes to check out the value of a movie. Seeing they graded Book of Eli a 44% or a D, maybe I should. I don't know if the reviewers are the so called "professionals' or failed artists or just average movie goers like the three of us. If 56% of them say it was rotten, I guess it was worst than I thought.

Guess you were closer to being right Kevin. Looking at the reviews and grades of the professionals, Legion and Book Of Eli only average a C. No one considered Eli amazing or even a B+. Both movies like you were average. LOL

Eoghan, I don't take offense to much. Let alone to being called average. We all know that Portland is the land of the call center employees with a healthy amount of confidence. My reply must have been above average as it was deleted from the discussion.

Kevin, seems like someone didn't like your opinion of his opinion. You must only be average,,j/k. I only have one question, it was called Book of Eli. We all knew it meant The Bible. We all knew it was an extened trek like Moses thousands of years ago. What would make anyone think the religon factor was not a key element? And just the fact that Matt believes it's the "meaning in life" is an undertone in the movie, I have to ask then what was the main point of this BOE. Guy has recieved the Lord's Word. Travels through the hardships of the desert for 30 years, not 40 like Moses. Fights off evil and temptation. Delivers the word. Dies after providing the Lord's Word to all. Word then moves on with another.
Everything about the plot seems to point to religon.
Wasn't that big of a fan of Legion either but it was good for a few laughs, I would watch again. Maybe some people shouldn't just take up free seats.

I am completely on the same page with you, Matt, about the Legion. I have no clue why I even wanted to see this movie. It was terrible in every aspect for me although I didnt pay attention to camera moves. I walked out of it 45 minutes into it, it was horrid!

You basiaclly have no concept of the meaning in life and the religous undertones in the movie. It was well made and put together. Im a script writer so im critical. Action sequences were perfect, story good, minus the ending with mila, and the Cinematography was perfectly filmed to match tone and the emotion the characters were going through, but still showing everything that was going on in the scene. Are you just an average movie goer? just curious

Different taste. I didn't walk out of Eli as others but I did expect more from Beal, Oldham and McDowell (hardy a role unless they somehow have a sequel) Mila Kunis as the eventually bad ass girl, not at all. It was better made, you can see the money spent. But the I'll walk the desert and kill for 30 years to save the virture of the Bible, only to die when was task is done set up was weak. If Denzel didn't do the movie the Hughes Brothers would be in the red. The only saving grace I saw was the old couple. It got me and others to stay until the end

Book of Eli was Amazing! Minus the weird ending i was glued to the screen. Every shot in the movie was well filmed and I was most impressed!
