Meet Dave "Bookman" Lathrop. tMC's latest member under the spotlight. Shari Green gets Dave to open up and share with us his infectious personality (Hint: It wasn't difficult).
I was born in Denver, Colorado on April 30, 1961. My earliest childhood memory is being in a swimming pool at night, when all of a sudden the pool was drained and bright lights came one, and a voice that sounded like my mother said "God! Will you look at that! And I thought I just had stomach cramps!"
I wanted to be younger when I grew up, and that's probably the reason I still act like a little kid most of the time.
I went to High Schools in Waco, Texas and in Phoenix. I don't remember the mascots, but I know I wasn't one of them.
My most embarassing moment took place in at the Marriott Marquis hotel in New York City a few years ago. I took a red-eye flight from Phoenix, and I got there in the middle of the night. I checked into my room, threw my suitcases down, and went to bed without even changing my clothes. When I woke up several hours later, I pulled back the sheets and noticed a "racing stripe" running down the length of the bed. Trying to remember what meal I had eaten on the plane, I realized that the mess was caused by a piece of chocolate left by the maid when she made the bed. I bet she thought she had to burn the sheets...
Favorite board game is Trivial Pursuit. I like to read, and have a collection of books that number well over 2,000, everything from current fiction to history to entertainment (mostly in the Movies/TV range). I also have a working 1960's Rock-Ola jukebox, filled with 45's from the late 60's and early 70's. My favorite song on it is "Popcorn" by Hot Butter, and I won't play "Muskrat Love" by The Captain and Tennille.
My favorite time of the year is probably summer, because that is when my vacation hits. Usually spend part of every year on the beaches of California, although I never go into the water (probably from a bad childhood memory?).
I have a cat (Smokey), an Old English Mastiff (Magnum), a couple of ferrets (Chuck Ferret and Ferret Bueller), and a wife named Pam.
Favorite color is probably blue, and my favorite book was probably written by Stephen King.
Me, a Romantic? Are you kidding? I can spend hours looking at myself in the mirror.
My favorite dessert is probably the Sahara... I really like the casino in Las Vegas, and would like to see it for real.
My favorite meal is Beef Stroganoff... topped off by a nice cold Mr. Pibb.
My favorite movies are probably comedies... some of my favorites are 1941, The Blues Brothers, and It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.
And when I go to the movies, I like to eat popcorn, no butter... with plenty of White Cheddar flavoring on it.
How did I come to tMC? I can't really remember... I believe I was a member of gofobo first, and then found a link to tMC. I think I was at a free screening where I got tickets on gofobo, and as Aaron was thanking the sponsors, the name "Text Movie Club" came up, and I googled it.
